James Bailey

I support: Newcastle United

My first live football match was: Newcastle at home to Peterborough on 16th Jan 1993. The Toon Army continued its march to the Premier League with a 3-0 win over the Posh, courtesy of a Rob Lee brace and a trademark poacher’s goal from David Kelly.

My greatest footballing memory is: my Dad taking the day off work and insisting we head over to St James’ Park to witness the unveiling of Alan Shearer as Newcastle’s new number 9, for a then world record £15 million transfer fee. Unbelievable scenes!!

The greatest player of all time is: Probably Shearer. Although that Messi seems like he can play a bit too.

The worst player to ever play for England is: Jay Bothroyd. I was there.

My least favourite thing about the modern game is: I have three – the fickleness of fans. the reluctance of the powers-that-be to embrace technology, and the lack of common sense at the FA when it comes to retrospective (in)action.
